Alyssa Rege -

An ambulance transporting a patient to Philadelphia-based Penn Presbyterian Medical Center was hit by a stray bullet Aug. 25, ABC-6 News reports.

The bullet struck the ambulance just before 10 p.m. Friday. A paramedic, EMT and patient were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident, though no one was injured, according to the television station.

Philadelphia Fire Department Deputy Commissioner of Operations Gary Loesch told ABC-6 the medical personnel in the ambulance "took the appropriate action and actually got down on the floor of the medic unit and protected the patient … until the gunfire ceased and then … called for the police."

Police said gunfire erupted on a nearby street. One bullet shot the ambulance above the headlight, while another bullet hit an unidentified 26-year-old man. The victim was taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown. Police are still searching for the suspect, according to the report.

The patient inside the ambulance was successfully transported to Penn Presbyterian.
