WebMD's revamped Symptom Checker features 3 times more symptoms, potential conditions

Online health and wellness information resource WebMD launched a revamped version of its Symptom Checker, which features three times the number of symptoms and potential conditions for patients than the previous version.

The revamped WebMD Symptom Checker features a redesigned user interface aimed at supporting patients during their point-of-care decisions. The Symptom Checker interface now allows visitors to type in how and what they are feeling as opposed to trying to connect specific areas of the body to specific ailments.

Once a user types in their symptoms and other relevant information, including medical history and medications, the Symptom Checker provides a list of potential conditions ordered and rated based on how strongly the particular condition and user information correlate. The tool is also integrated with WebMD's Physician Directory to help visitors address their health issues.

The Symptom Checker was redesigned based on feedback from WebMD users, medical experts as well as academics and researchers.

"The WebMD Symptom Checker is our flagship tool that consumers turn to each month for information on their health concerns," said WebMD CEO Steven Zatz, MD. "Our redesign reflects our commitment to continually improving the experience of consumers when seeking answers to their health questions. We take very seriously our role in the consumer healthcare experience, and we have enhanced the tool to deliver the most accurate results possible."
