U of Arizona expands mobile health program to 2,000 more patients

Over 2,000 patients in Tucson will gain more access to healthcare, thanks to the University of Arizona Mobile Health Program's new partnerships with three nonprofit groups.

The program operates a mobile health clinic to provide care for underprivileged populations, along with training for family medicine residents and medical and nursing students at the university. UA is partnering with the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, Youth on Their Own and the Primavera Foundation's Casa Paloma to expand its mobile health services to more patients.

The expanded services are funded by a $450,000 donation from the Banner Health Foundation, which will allow the program to open a second mobile health clinic and hire additional staff members.

The Mobile Clinic will visit SAAF twice a month to offer on-site HIV testing, immediate care and HIV-prevention medications, among other services.

The mobile clinic will also provide healthcare services to people who are homeless or have insecure housing situations at YOTO and Casa Paloma. YOTO offers support for many homeless youths in the LGBTQ community, while Casa Paloma provides shelter for women who have experienced violence or trauma and are unlikely to seek care on their own.
