First lady Melania Trump held a town hall-style meeting at Lynchburg, Va.-based Liberty University Nov. 28 to discuss the opioid epidemic, according to an e-newsletter published by STAT.
The live-streamed town hall meeting featured Alex Azar, secretary of HHS; Kirstjen Nielsen, secretary of Homeland Security; Eric Bolling, former Fox News host; and Dianna Hart, mother of the singer Demi Lovato. Mr. Bolling's son died of an opioid overdose and Ms. Hart's daughter struggled with addiction.
Liberty University live-streamed the event on its Facebook page at 10:30 a.m. Eastern time.
"When I took on opioid abuse as one of the pillars of my initiative 'Be Best,' I did it with the goal of helping children of all ages. I have visited several hospitals and facilities that are dedicated to helping all who have been affected by this disease — including people who are addicted, babies born addicted and families coping with addiction of a loved one," Ms. Trump said, according to CNN.
Ms. Trump has previously hosted events to bring awareness to the opioid epidemic and its effect on society as part of her "Be Best" initiative.
