FBI, DEA raid at least 5 Pennsylvania urgent care centers in opioid investigation

The FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration on Monday conducted raids on at least five Pennsylvania Advanced Urgent Care centers in Scranton, State College and the Philadelphia area, according to report from The Philadelphia Inquirer

The raids were part of an ongoing investigation into alleged overprescribing of opioids at the locations. Law enforcement has been investigating Mehdi Nikparvar, MD, the owner of the facilities, for some time. In 2015, authorities conducted raids at multiple Advanced Urgent Care centers in the Philadelphia area. On Monday, Dr. Nikparvar was listed as being held at Philadelphia's Federal Detention Center, according to the Inquirer

In 2016, an average of 13 people died of a drug overdose every day in Pennsylvania, according to a previous Inquirer report.
