Barnesville Hospital launches addiction services to curb drug overdoses

Kelly Gooch -

Residents of Ohio, which carries one of the highest rates of overall opioid overdose deaths, have a new place to go for addiction services.

Addiction Services of Eastern Ohio recently opened at Barnesville (Ohio) Hospital Medical Center thanks to a collaboration between Crossroads Counseling Services, Barnesville Hospital, Ohio Hills Health Services, Mental Health and Recovery Board and Belmont Professional Associates.

"Typically, the Barnesville Hospital emergency department would see a couple of overdoses each year," Joseph Jeffries, Barnesville Hospital pharmacy director, said in a news release. "However, as the drug problem grew it became common for there to be an overdose a week. It is apparent the drug epidemic is in our region and it is negatively impacting our families and our communities."

Addiction Services of Eastern Ohio offers withdrawal maintenance, behavioral counseling and medication assisted treatment, among other services, the release states. More information is available here.
