Two police officers and an ambulance attendant were hospitalized at Holyoke (Mass.) Medical Center April 5 for fentanyl exposure after treating an overdose victim, reports MassLive.
The first responders encountered a male overdose victim in a parked car, who was successfully revived and transported to Holyoke Medical Center. The responders were also taken to the hospital after feeling dizzy and disoriented.
A hazmat team identified a substance at the scene of the incident as fentanyl, and the first responders were admitted to Holyoke Medical Center's emergency room for decontamination and detoxification.
The hospital discharged one police officer. The second officer and ambulance attendant were still admitted as of April 5.
