WashU cancer center names building for donor

St. Louis-based WashU Medicine has named its new outpatient cancer care building the Gary C. Werths Building, in honor of donors Richard Frimel and his late husband, Gary Werths.

Part of the Siteman Cancer Center, the outpatient building opened in September and is home to BJC HealthCare and WashU Medicine providers, according to a Nov. 26 news release from the university.

The naming is in honor of Mr. Frimel and Mr. Werths’ pledge to fund cancer research and medical student scholarships at the Siteman Cancer Center. While the amount was not disclosed, the pledge is the largest single philanthropic investment the center has received since a founding gift from Alvin and Ruth Siteman 25 years ago, the news release said.

Mr. Werth previously made a gift to WashU through his estate toward undergraduate scholarships and Alzheimer’s disease research.

The Gary C. Werths Building allows patients to receive care from WashU Medicine cancer specialists and BJC providers within a single visit, the release said.
