About 180 advocates representing the American Society of Clinical Oncology met with more than 200 congressional offices in Washington, D.C., April 8, to raise awareness of three issues the group said are “critical” to the support of cancer care and research.
The issues are:
- Prioritizing funding for the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute and the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health in fiscal 2026.
- Reforming prior authorization mandates, holding health plans accountable and improving transparency around approvals for medically necessary services.
- Addressing cancer drug shortages by identifying potential economic factors that may be driving generic drug manufacturers out of the market.
