The funding will allow the institute to strengthen the cancer industry’s workforce, modernize clinical trials and support cancer detection and prevention across the country. The budget also includes $50 million for the Childhood Cancer Data Initiative, according to the proposal published Sept. 4.
The 2026 proposal is more than $2 billion more than the 2025 proposal.

- $479 million to cancer biology research
- $338 million to cancer prevention research
- $457 million to cancer detection and diagnosis research
- $534 million to cancer treatment research
- $175 million to public health and cancer control research
- $196 million to training and infrastructure
