Boise, Idaho-based St. Luke’s Health System will temporarily close the urologic oncology clinic at the St. Luke’s Cancer Institute, also in Boise, according to a May 6 report from BoiseDev

The closure will go into effect May 30 and is related to the departure of one of the clinic’s physicians, the report said.

The health system is working with patients to facilitate a “smooth transition of care,” according to a note on St. Luke’s website.

“Though St. Luke’s urologic-oncology care is merging with our general urology clinic, our comprehensive and robust urology program will continue,” a representative from St. Luke’s told Becker’s. “[The] experience and knowledge among our urology physicians allow[s] the level of care to remain unchanged; this includes continued availability of chemotherapy and radiation for urologic cancer at St. Luke’s Cancer Institute. Our teams have been working hard to connect with patients to ensure continuity of care.”

About 3,000 patients will be affected by the temporary closure. The health system began recruitment efforts for a urologic oncologist once they learned of the physician’s intended departure but has yet to fill the position, the representative said.
