Here are the 11 award recipients:
- Susan Domchek, MD, will receive the ASCO-American Cancer Society Cancer Prevention Award. Dr. Domchek is the executive director of the Basser Center for BRCA and director of the Mariann and Robert MacDonald Cancer Risk Evaluation Program at Philadelphia-based Abramson Cancer Center.
- Don Dizon, MD, will receive the Excellence in Equity Award, endowed by the American Cancer Society. Dr. Dizon is a professor of medicine and of surgery at Providence, R.I.-based Brown University and vice chair of diversity, equity, inclusion and professional integrity at the SWOG Cancer Research Network.
- Christopher Flowers, MD, will receive the Jamie Von Roenn Excellence in Teaching and Mentorship Award. Dr. Flowers is chair of the department of lymphoma/myeloma and division head for cancer medicine at Houston-based University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
- Dawn Hershman, MD, will receive the David Karnofsky Science of Oncology Award. Dr. Hershman is deputy director of New York City-based Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center and interim chief for the division of hematology/oncology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia, also in New York City.
- Melissa Hudson, MD, will receive the Pediatric Oncology Award. Dr. Hudson is director of the Cancer Survivorship Division in the department of oncology at Memphis, Tenn.-based St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
- Heidi Klepin, MD, will receive the BJ Kennedy Award for Geriatric Oncology, endowed by Tony and Carrie Cheung. Dr. Klepin is professor in the department of cancer medicine at Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
- Karen Jackson will receive the Patient Advocate Award. Ms. Jackson is the founder and CEO of Houston-based Sisters Network.
- Karen Knudsen, PhD, will receive the Allen Lichter Visionary Leader Award. Dr. Knudsen is the former CEO of the American Cancer Society and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.
- Ian Krop, MD, PhD, will receive the Gianni Bonadonna Breast Cancer Award. Dr. Krop is associate cancer center director for clinical research and chief clinical research officer at New Haven, Conn.-based Yale Cancer Center and chief scientific officer for the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium.
- Barbara McAneny, MD, will receive the Humanitarian Award. Dr. McAneny is co-founder and CEO of Albuquerque-based New Mexico Oncology Hematology Consultants.
- Karen Mustian, PhD, will receive the Walther Cancer Foundation Supportive Oncology Award. Dr. Mustian is associate director of population science at Rochester, N.Y.-based Wilmot Cancer Institute and co-director and principal investigator of the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Cancer Center NCORP Research Base.
