The American Cancer Society Center for Diversity in Cancer Research Training will supplement the traditional academic journey, according to a Feb. 21 organization press release.

The initial program will support underrepresented high school, college and post-baccalaureate students and expose them to the subjects of oncology and cancer research. The center will also provide mentorship, hands-on research experiences and career development.

The aim is to increase recruitment and nurture students from diverse backgrounds within scientific and clinical training environments, according to the release.
