123 cancer centers opening, expanding, affiliating in 2023

Here are 123 cancer centers opening, expanding or affiliating:

  1. Orland Park, Ill.-based Northwestern Medicine St. George Cancer Institute opened its expanded services thanks to a $51 million gift.

  2. New York state is calling for proposals for developers to build a 200,000-square-foot cell and gene therapy hub.

  3. Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth has broken ground on an estimated $280 million expansion project at Loveland, Colo.-based Medical Center of the Rockies that will include a radiation oncology department.

  4. Warsaw, Ind.-based Parkview Health is unveiling its new $70 million hospital expansion, Parkview Kosciusko Hospital, in the new year, which will include an extension of the health system's cancer services.

  5. Syracuse, N.Y.-based St. Joseph's Health is partnering with Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, N.Y., to bring more oncology services to local residents.

  6. The Valley Medical Center, a new cancer center in Renton, Wash., will begin construction in the new year.

  7. The University of Cincinnati's Blood Cancer Healing Center will open in 2024 thanks in part to a $15 million donation.

  8. Houston-based MD Anderson Cancer Center Northwest Houston Surgical and Specialty Care opened in early December and serves patients undergoing procedures that need a stay of up to 48 hours only.

  16. Palo Alto, Calif.-based Stanford Health Care and Sacramento-based Sutter Health were given permission to build a $58 million, 170,000-square-foot joint cancer treatment center in Oakland.

  24. New York City-based Staten Island University Hospital, part of Northwell Health, opened its new Florina Cancer Center, a $50 million comprehensive ambulatory cancer program.

  25. Dallas-based Texas Oncology, one of the largest community-based oncology practices, opened its 32,000-square-foot cancer care center, located on the Christus Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth campus.

  26. New York City-based Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center's new breast cancer center opened in September.

  27. Irving, Texas-based Christus Health expanded its cancer center in Bossier City, La., and moved it to a new location.

  30. Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine opened a new clinic called the Lurie Cancer Center Hispanic Breast Cancer Clinic at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. All providers and staff at the clinic speak Spanish.

  32. New York City-based Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center opened a new breast center at the Hutchinson Metro Center that offers screening studies, advanced imaging, minimally invasive surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, a high-risk breast cancer prevention and lymphedema prevention program, as well as genetic counseling.
  33. Pikeville, Ky.-based Lawson Cancer Center is expanding its cancer center to include 24 new treatment rooms.

  34. Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y., opened its new Upstate Cancer Center on Sept. 26 in Verona, N.Y.

  35. Boston-based Mass General Cancer Center has received the largest philanthropic gift in its history and is renaming its cancer center's research division the Krantz Family Center for Cancer Research; the family that made the donation.

  36. Blessing Cancer Center Hannibal (Mo.) opened Sept. 18.

  37. Lewistown-based Central Montana Medical Center broke ground on a $15.6 million cancer center Sept. 13.

  38. Columbus-based OhioHealth opened a $25 million, two story-cancer center Sept. 12.

  40. Mercy Medical Center in Redding, Calif., is finalizing plans on its $70 million cancer center before starting construction in early 2024.

  41. Bozeman Health is opening a patient care tower at Bozeman, Mont.-based Deaconess Regional Medical Center, which will include new rooms and treatments for oncology patients.

  42. Johnson Memorial Hospital, based in Enfield, Conn., reopened its cancer center after the hospital underwent a $40 million expansion and renovation project that added 5,500 square feet to the center.

  43. The University of Texas System announced plans to build two hospitals as part of the University of Texas at Austin Medical Center, a new, comprehensive cancer center operated by MD Anderson and a specialty UT Austin hospital, with an estimated price tag of $2.5 billion.

  44. Valdese, N.C.-based Cancer Center at UNC Health Blue Ridge Valdese, a $38 million, 34,272-square-foot facility, opened Aug. 8.
