West Penn Allegheny Health System Reports $4.3 Million Profit for First Quarter of FY2010

Pittsburgh-based West Penn Allegheny Health System reported a net profit of $4.3 million for the first quarter of fiscal year 2010, a marked improvement over the $16 million loss the system posted for the first quarter of FY 2009, according to a report in Healthcare Finance News.


West Penn also improved its operating performance, posting a $4.1 million operating loss for the first quarter of FY 2010, which ended Sept. 30, 2009, a 76 percent improvement from the posted $17.3 million loss in the first quarter of FY 2009, according to the report.

The health system also improved cash and investments by $26.3 million for the first quarter of FY 2010 and reported total revenues of $419.1 million, up 4.4 percent year-over-year, according to the report.
