Supreme Court to Hear Healthcare Reform Arguments March 26-28

Staff -
The Supreme Court has scheduled oral arguments regarding the legality of President Barack Obama's healthcare reform law March 26-28, 2012, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

On Mon., March 26, the Court will consider if the case is even eligible to be heard. A federal appeals court in Virginia previously ruled that the mandate could not be challenged legally until an individual was first penalized for noncompliance. However, both the Obama Administration, which appealed the case to the Supreme Court, and the 26 states and independent small business group that brought the original challenge in question argue the Court can hear the case.

If the case moves forward, the high court will hear arguments over the legality of the coverage mandate on Tues., March 27. On March 28, arguments over which portions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act can survive if the mandate is struck down will take place.
