A March Kaiser Health Tracking Poll (pdf) revealed significant confusion and unawareness among the American population regarding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
While 58 percent of respondents said they know PPACA is still the law, 28 percent are unsure, and 14 percent think it has already been overturned by the Supreme Court.
Other data points include the following:
• Fifty-nine percent said they don't have enough information about the law to understand how it will impact them personally — nearly the same percentage that the April 2010 poll found for this question (56 percent).
• Thirty-six percent incorrectly believe the law allows a government panel to make decisions on end-of-life care for Medicare beneficiaries.
• Seventy percent incorrectly believe or are not sure that the law creates a new government-run insurance plan to be offered with private plans.
• Forty-one percent hold favorable views of the law, 40 percent hold unfavorable views and 19 percent do not have an opinion.
