Mike Duggan Officially Running for Mayor of Detroit

Mike Duggan, the former CEO of Detroit Medical Center, has officially launched his campaign to run for mayor of Detroit.

Mr. Duggan assumed the top post at DMC in 2004. He stepped down in late November 2012 to pursue candidacy, but his time at DMC is a centerpiece in his campaign.

On his "Duggan for Detroit" website, Mr. Duggan touts his role in DMC's turnaround under his tenure. He assumed his spot when the system was facing closures or layoffs. He helped the system turn a profit each year he was president and CEO, and also led it through an acquisition by Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems, a for-profit company.

Mr. Duggan has previous experience in public service, as he served as Michigan's Wayne County prosecutor for three years before coming to DMC. He also previously served as deputy Wayne County executive.

Joe Mullany replaced Mr. Duggan as CEO Jan. 1.
