Top 62 Hospitals Where Staff Always Explain Meds Before Giving Them to Patients

Staff -
Here is a list of 62 non-specialty, acute-care hospitals with the highest percentage of patients who reported in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey that staff "always" explained about medicines before giving it to them.

Note: The list is based on HCAHPS survey results reported in CMS' Hospital Compare database and covers the period October 2010 through September 2011. HCAHPS allows patients to rate line items relating to their patient care experience. This particular metric covers questions 16 and 17 in the survey, which ask, respectively, how often hospital staff told patients what any new medicine was for before administering it, and how often staff described possible side effects of any new medicine in a way patients could understand before giving it to them.

Some hospitals were excluded from this list for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to having fewer than 100 patients complete the HCAHPS survey. Surgical and specialty hospitals were not included on the list.
