Warrants say physician was intoxicated when he shot orthopedic sales representative

Warrants released May 7 allege a South Carolina physician was under the influence of alcohol when he shot an orthopedic salesman in October 2017, according to The State.

Adam Lazzarini, MD, is charged with obstruction of justice and involuntary manslaughter in the accidental shooting death of William Player Holland, a CrossLink Orthopaedics sales representative who was visiting Dr. Lazzarini's home, on Oct. 9, 2017. Mr. Holland died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

According to warrants recently released by the Cayce Department of Public Safety, Dr. Lazzarini was under the influence of alcohol when he fired a gun pointed at Mr. Holland's chest. Dr. Lazzarini also lied to investigators after the incident, according to the warrants.

Dr. Lazzarini "withheld information concerning a witness to the incident with the intended effect being the obstruction of the investigation," state the warrants.

Dr. Lazzarini was arrested last week in the fatal shooting of Mr. Holland. The physician's arrest came two days after he reported the death of his wife, who was found dead in the same home where Mr. Holland was killed, according to The State. The death of Dr. Lazzarini's wife remains under investigation, and Dr. Lazzarini is not facing charges in the death of his wife.
