Tennessee physician charged in $7M healthcare fraud conspiracy

A Tennessee physician was charged for his alleged role in a $7 million fraud scheme involving false Medicare claims, according to the Department of Justice.

According to charges filed Dec. 20, 2019, James Crabb, MD, and others submitted false and fraudulent claims to Medicare for durable medical equipment that was medically unnecessary or ineligible for reimbursement. The alleged scheme, which lasted from February 2015 through August 2019, included orders and prescriptions that were made through kickbacks and bribes.

Dr. Crabb faces up to a decade in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
