Livingston (Tenn.) Regional Hospital, a 114-bed hospital owned by Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health, will pay $784,000 to resolve allegations it violated the False Claims Act, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

The federal government alleged from July 9, 2015 to Oct. 31, 2015, the hospital knowingly billed Medicare Part A for medically unnecessary inpatient psychiatric care.

Livingston Regional Hospital's settlement resolves allegations originally made in a lawsuit filed against the hospital by two former employees. The two former employees, who filed the whistle-blower lawsuit under the qui tam provisions of the False Claims Act, will receive $156,800 of the settlement.
