Police arrest 18-year-old, juvenile in connection with fatal shooting of IU medical school physician

Police arrested an 18-year-old man and a juvenile male Dec. 14 for allegedly shooting Kevin Rodgers, MD, and burglarizing his home Nov. 20, according to WishTV-8 News.

Indiana Metropolitan Police Department arrested Ka'ron Bickham-Hurst and an unidentified juvenile, the department tweeted Thursday. The individuals face preliminary charges of murder and burglary.

Dr. Rodgers, program director emeritus of the emergency medicine residency at Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health School of Medicine, was shot and killed in his home Nov. 20 after walking in on the suspects allegedly burglarizing his home, according to CBS News. Police said they received a call from Dr. Rodgers' wife after she discovered his body, the report states.

Officials said no probable cause has been filed and that the investigation is ongoing. The medical examiner's office will assist in the investigation to determine Dr. Rodgers' exact cause of death, police said.
