A jury has found a suburban Detroit physician guilty of healthcare fraud and controlled substance distribution, according to an MLive report.

Federal prosecutors claimed Mikhayl Soliman, MD, who owned Soliman Medical Center and Soliman Home Visity Physicians in Wayne, Mich., bilked Medicare for $3 million by submitting fraudulent claims for home health visits between January 2007 and July 2012.

Prosecutors specifically alleged Dr. Soliman billed Medicare for home healthcare visits that were never performed. At times, Dr. Soliman submitted claims that exceeded 24 hours of services on the same day, according to the report.

Dr. Soliman was also convicted of issuing prescriptions for painkillers for no legitimate purpose and at times without performing examinations.

Dr. Soliman's sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2016.
