Physician group claims West Virginia hospital owes $590K for ED services

Huntington, W.Va.-based Ohio Valley Physicians has filed a lawsuit against Williamson (W.Va.) Memorial Hospital claiming it's owed $590,575 for emergency department services provided by its physicians, according to the West Virginia Record.

According to the lawsuit, Ohio Valley Physicians entered into an agreement with the hospital in September 2018 to provide services through the hospital's emergency department. The 76-bed hospital allegedly stopped paying for the services in May.

Williamson Memorial Hospital entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Oct. 21. The hospital needs to restructure its debt or find a new owner to remain open, according to a recently filed Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act Notification letter obtained by the Williamson Daily News.

Ohio Valley Physicians is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, litigation costs and injunctive relief, according to the West Virginia Record.
