Pharmacist gets prison for $22M fraud scheme

A Houston pharmacist was sentenced to more than two years in prison for a $22 million healthcare fraud "cream scheme," the Justice Department said Oct. 11.

While operating Memorial Pharmacy, Khyati Undavia paid physicians kickbacks, either directly or through marketers, for medicated creams between 2012 and 2018. Ms. Undavia pleaded guilty Oct. 12, 2021, and paid $12 million in restitution, according to the Justice Department.

One year after she pleaded guilty, a district judge sentenced Ms. Undavia to 27 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release.
