A patient recruiter in Michigan pleaded guilty to participating in a kickback scheme that led to about $1.2 million in fraudulent Medicare claims, according to the Department of Justice.
Ghalia Savaya pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to receive illegal kickbacks in exchange for referring Medicare beneficiaries to Troy, Mich.-based Franklin Health Care, a home health facility. The scheme took place from roughly April 2015 to November 2017.
Medicare paid more than $1.25 million for claims related to the patients Ms. Savaya referred to the provider, including claims for patients who were not eligible for home healthcare services.
Ms. Savaya was indicted in June 2018. Her sentencing is scheduled for May 30.
