An oncology group is suing Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth for allegedly creating a noncompetitive environment in Volusia and Flagler counties, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Mid Florida Cancer Centers has pursued legal action for four years over a contract between AdventHealth and Florida Cancer Specialists, according to the report. The health system's attorney told the Orlando Sentinel the goal of the Florida Cancer Specialists contract was to better coordinate cancer care.
Here are the chief claims in the lawsuit:
- Mid Florida alleges AdventHealth and Florida Cancer Specialists agreed to provide parallel services so they didn't compete with each other on radiation oncology, oncologic imaging, medical oncology and hematology services.
- The lawsuit alleges AdventHealth withdrew from the medical oncology market once the original contract expired in July 2018.
- Mid Florida alleges AdventHealth and Florida Cancer Specialists created a closed referral loop for these services, leaving Mid Florida providers out.
- The lawsuit also alleges AdventHealth has not given three new Mid Florida physicians hospital privileges.
Florida Cancer Specialists and Mid Florida Cancer Centers settled earlier this year, according to the report. AdventHealth's motion to dismiss the lawsuit was denied.
