Ohio substance abuse clinic owner sentenced to 6 years in prison in billing fraud case

An Ohio substance abuse clinic owner has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for defrauding the state's Medicaid program.

Geron Tate, the owner of outpatient clinic G L Tate & Associates in Mansfield, Ohio, will pay the state's Medicaid program $1.57 million in restitution in addition to his sentence as part of a plea agreement, the Ohio Attorney General's office said Nov. 2.

According to the Attorney General, Mr. Tate submitted over 5,000 claims for services not provided to be reimbursed by Medicaid. Investigators identified 25 instances where Mr. Tate was out of state, not at his clinic, but billed for services.
