Staff -

Police charged Jason Laut, a former paramedical supervisor of Sparta, Ill.-based MedStar Ambulance, with two counts of identity theft, six counts of wire fraud and 29 counts of making false statements, according to KMOV.com.

He was also charged with theft of controlled substances. Between January 2013 and May 2015, Mr. Laut altered and falsified patient records to hide his theft of fentanyl and morphine. On various care-related forms, he indicated the drugs were given to patients even though they were not.

Mr. Laut's trial is set for March 27. He could face up to 20 years in prison.
