Man indicted on murder charges for fatal shooting at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center

A grand jury in New Hampshire has issued an indictment charging 49-year-old Travis Frink with both first- and second-degree murder in the shooting death of his mother earlier this year at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., according to the Valley News.

Mr. Frink is accused of shooting his 70-year-old mother Sept. 12 while she was a patient in Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center's intensive care unit.

The first-degree murder charge asserts Mr. Frink "purposely caused" his mother's death, and the second-degree charge asserts he acted "recklessly, under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life, by shooting her multiple times," according to the report.

According to an affidavit filed by New Hampshire State Police Sgt. Mary Bonilla, Mr. Frink drove to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center from Rhode Island on the day of the incident. He allegedly signed in to the visitor's desk and then went to the ICU, where he asked his stepfather for some time alone with his mother. As his stepfather was leaving the room, Mr. Frink allegedly shot his mother several times.

After firing the shots, Mr. Frink walked past his stepfather without saying a word and left the hospital. He was arrested as he attempted to drive off the Dartmouth-Hitchcock campus, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Mr. Frink has been held without bail since the shooting.
