Indiana Legal Services, HealthLinc partner for medical-legal services

Indiana Legal Services, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit law firm, and Indiana-based HealthLinc Community Health Centers have agreed to a medical-legal partnership.

The partnership will provide HealthLinc patients in northwest Indiana with no-cost, civil legal aid for health-related issues, the companies said via news release. The Indiana Bar and Legacy foundations are funding the partnership.

"Community health centers are a vital way for our attorneys to connect with eligible clients in communities across our state," said Jon Laramore, executive director of Indiana Legal Services. "We are excited to partner with HealthLinc to connect those who typically can't afford an attorney with the resources to address legal needs that also impact their health."

The companies said staff in HealthLinc clinics across northwest Indiana will receive training from Indiana Legal Services so they can help identify instances where a patient may qualify for civil legal aid. They cited various potential qualifying legal issues such as insurance and benefits claims, substandard housing, and criminal record expungement.
