House Passes Legislation Addressing VA Wait Time Issues

Ayla Ellison -

The House has unanimously passed legislation that allows veterans to receive care from private medical providers outside of Veterans Affairs facilities, according The Washington Times.

Under the new law, introduced by Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.), veterans are allowed to use private medical providers if they live more than 40 miles away from a VA hospital, or if they experience long wait times.

The law also bans all VA employees from receiving bonuses through 2016 and requires the Office of Management and Budget to allow officials to use any savings from the lost bonuses within the Department of Veterans Affairs, according to the report.

A similar bill has recently been introduced in the Senate.
