Healthcare billing fraud: 8 latest settlements

Here are eight healthcare organizations that entered into settlements to resolve False Claims Act allegations in the past month:

1. Prime Healthcare, CEO settle billing fraud allegations
Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services and its founder and CEO Prem Reddy, MD, agreed to pay the federal government $1.25 million to settle false claims allegations.

2. Specialty pharmacy pays $17M to settle Medicare billing fraud lawsuit
Glen Mills, Pa.-based Pentec Health, which provides drug compounding services, agreed to pay $17 million to resolve False Claims Act allegations.

3. Georgia hospital enters $5M settlement with feds to resolve false claims case
Union General Hospital in Blairsville, Ga., agreed to pay $5 million to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act and Stark Law.

4. Walgreens pays $269M to settle billing fraud lawsuits
Walgreens Boots Alliance agreed to pay $269.2 million to settle two healthcare fraud lawsuits, alleging the company overbilled government payers.

5. Montana hospital pays $10M to settle kickback suit
Bozeman (Mont.) Health Deaconess Hospital paid $10 million to resolve allegations the hospital submitted fraudulent claims to government payers as part of a kickback scheme.

6. Pathology lab strikes $63M deal in physician kickback case
Inform Diagnostics, an Irving, Texas-based pathology laboratory company, agreed to pay $63.5 million to resolve allegations it violated the False Claims Act, Stark Law and the Anti-Kickback Statute.

7. Greenway Health to pay $57M to resolve False Claims Act allegations
Tampa, Fla.-based EHR company Greenway Health will pay $57.25 million to resolve allegations that it misrepresented the capabilities of its software, causing clients to submit false claims to the government in violation of the False Claims Act.

8. Kansas pharmacy pays $9.5M to settle whistle-blower lawsuit
Stark Pharmacy will pay $9.5 million to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act.
