Former UPMC employee sentenced to 1 year in prison after disclosing 111 patient records

A former Pittsburgh-based UPMC care coordinator was sentenced on June 25 to one year in federal prison after illegally accessing and disclosing 111 patients' records, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Linda Kalina, 62, pleaded guilty in March to wrongfully accessing and disclosing patient records. At UPMC, she was illegally accessing patient records between March 30, 2016, and June 15, 2017.

After being fired from UPMC in June 2017, Ms. Kalina went to work for Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network, where she also disclosed patient information.

Along with her one-year prison sentence, Ms. Kalina will face three years of probation. She has also been ordered to have no contact with any of the victims.
