A former employee of Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic is facing felony charges for allegedly stealing $172,000 from the health system in less than a year, according to the Post Bulletin.

Timothy Stafford is accused of stealing the funds from Mayo Clinic's parking department between September 2015 and March 2016. He served as the parking and transportation supervisor for Mayo during that time, according to the report.

Mr. Stafford was charged with five counts of theft by swindle and five counts of diversion of corporate property.

A spokesperson for Mayo Clinic told the Post Bulletin that Mr. Stafford, who worked at Mayo for 14 years, was fired in April 2016 after an internal investigation revealed "he had engaged in theft from Mayo Clinic and had been dishonest regarding his performance of job duties related to cash handling."

Mayo Clinic reported the case to the FBI in 2016, according to the report.
