Former Kaiser medical aide charged with sexually assaulting patient

A former medical assistant at Kaiser Hospital in Union City (Calif.) who sexually assaulted two patients was sentenced to three years in prison April 19, according to The Mercury News.

The 48-year-old man pleaded guilty in January 2018 to one count of sexual battery. He assaulted a woman who went to the hospital for a routine medical visit in January 2017.

After the woman's physician exited the exam room, the medical assistant entered and locked the door behind him, according to court documents.

He then restrained the woman, placing his arm over her upper body and tightly holding her. He allegedly said, "I have something for you" as he began sexually assaulting her and forced her to touch him. The woman was able to push him away and escape, but did not report the attack to police until two days later.

The man was later charged with an additional misdemeanor for assaulting another woman sometime in December 2016 in an amended criminal complaint, roughly a month before the first woman's attack.

The lawsuit claims Kaiser was aware past complaints about the medical assistant, yet still allowed him to access female patients. In January, Kaiser confirmed to The Mercury News that the man was no longer an employee there.

In addition to the three-year prison sentence, the former medical assistant will have to register as a lifetime sex offender upon finishing his sentence.
