Florida hospital on hook for $1.1M jury award after woman's fall

Leo Vartorella -

A woman who slipped on the wet floor at Tallahassee, Fla.-based Capital Regional Medical Center in 2016 has been awarded $1.1 million by a jury, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

Stephanie Kemp incurred over $100,000 in medical bills after the slip, and the jury determined that hospital negligence caused the fall. Surveillance footage show the hospital violated its own policy of not dragging bags of used linens in order to prevent slipping.

"I think it's clear the jury found that Ms. Kemp's injuries were wholly preventable had the hospital only followed its own rules," Tyler Everett, Ms. Kemp's lawyer, told the Democrat.
