Ex-OSF hospital chief sues over firing, alleging mental health discrimination

The former chief of staff at Alton, Ill.-based OSF St. Anthony's Health Center sued the hospital's operators after he was fired, accusing the hospital of not giving him a proper hearing, according to The Telegraph.

In his lawsuit, podiatrist John Lindsay, DPM, claimed his mental health disability — anxiety and depression — was not considered in his firing. According to the lawsuit, Dr. Lindsay said that two weeks before he was terminated, hospital management accused him of improper conduct, including "outbursts."

Dr. Lindsay claims the outbursts resulted from his depression and anxiety, and that his symptoms worsened due to increased workloads and more duties, according to the report.

In an emailed statement to Becker's Hospital Review, an OSF spokesperson said: "OSF HealthCare holds sacred the need to protect the privacy of all Mission Partners, even those no longer in our service. Given our obligation to privacy protections required by law and by our own policies, we have no additional statement in response to the lawsuit filed by Dr. Lindsay."
