Ex-COO hits shuttered Texas hospital with class-action lawsuit over mass layoffs

Ayla Ellison -

Paul Abraham served as COO of Forest Park Medical Center's facility in San Antonio, Texas, until he was terminated in mid-October when the hospital closed. Claiming violations of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, Mr. Abraham has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of the 139 employees, including himself, that were notified of their immediate termination Oct. 15.

Forest Park Medical Center San Antonio closed in mid-October after the hospital's property owner filed for bankruptcy protection.

In his lawsuit, Mr. Abraham alleges the operator of Forest Park Medical Center San Antonio "willfully" violated the WARN Act by failing to give 60 days notice to the employees it let go.

Mr. Abraham further claims that he and the other employees who were terminated from their positions are entitled to their back pay and associated benefits for each day of the violation.
