Delta (Colo.) County Memorial Hospital District faces a federal lawsuit for alleged failure to compensate off-the-clock work performed by hourly staff, according to the Montrose Daily Press.
The lawsuit, filed by a nurse who formerly worked at the hospital, alleges Delta County Memorial allowed meal breaks to be interrupted for cleaning, phone calls, equipment preparation and meetings with physicians. Krystal Gray alleged she worked an average of five to 10 hours off the clock each week and was discouraged from clocking in for work performed during breaks or before and after shifts, according to the report.
Ms. Gray filed for class- and collective-action status, which would allow other nurses, nurse aides, nurse assistants and technicians to opt into the lawsuit.
This is the second employment lawsuit filed against the hospital, according to the report. Four physicians are also suing the hospital for gender discrimination.
The hospital district declined the Montrose Daily Press' request for comment.
