California pharmacy owner convicted of Medicare, Medicaid fraud and drug diversion scheme

A California woman was convicted for healthcare fraud and prescription drug diversion schemes, the Justice Department said Oct. 17. 

Irina Sadovsky, 53, was convicted of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and conspiracy to engage in the unlicensed wholesale of prescription drugs on Oct. 14.

Ms. Sadovksy owned two pharmacies in Van Nuys, Calif., Five Star Pharmacy and Ultimate Pharmacy. According to the Justice Department, she submitted claims to Medicaid and Medicare for prescriptions that were not dispensed to patients but instead provided to co-conspirators selling the drugs on the black market. 

Ms. Sadovsky is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 3, 2023.
