Broward Health settles with former CEO Pauline Grant for nearly $1M

Emily Rappleye -

The Broward Health board approved a $975,000 settlement with former CEO Pauline Grant, who filed a lawsuit against the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based health system after she was fired for unproven kickback allegations, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Ms. Grant took over after CEO Nabil El Sanadi, MD, died by suicide in early 2016, and she was abruptly fired in December 2016, according to the report. Ms. Grant denied participating in the alleged kickback scheme, which related to orthopedic surgeon contracts, and the allegations were not proven in court, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. However, an independent investigation found she "ran afoul" of federal anti-kickback laws.

As part of the settlement, Ms. Grant has agreed to cooperate with the health system in a federal investigation, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
