Bill Requiring North Carolina Hospitals to Post Prices Passes Senate Committee

A bipartisan North Carolina Senate committee threw its support behind a bill that would require hospitals to make their bills more transparent and comprehensible to patients, according to a Charlotte Observer report.

The bill moves to the Senate Finance Committee and is expected to be voted on by the full Senate late next week, according to the report.

The bill aims to make hospital prices and costs more transparent, requiring hospitals to post prices for their 50 most common procedures. Hospitals would have to delineate how much they charge, the amount paid by uninsured patients, the amounts paid by Medicare and Medicaid and the amounts paid by major payors.
