Another Justice Department lawyer quits

One of the lawyers representing the U.S. government in a lawsuit challenging the lawfulness of the ACA is leaving the Justice Department after two years on the job, according to the National Law Journal.

Brett Shumate, a top political appointee in the Justice Department's civil division, filed notices with courts across the country April 11 announcing his withdrawal from the lawsuit.

The move comes about one year after Joel McElvain, a senior litigator at the Justice Department, resigned the day after the department said it would not defend the ACA.

Mr. Shumate didn't respond to the National Law Journal's request for comment.
