From a California health system destroying evidence in an antitrust case to a Georgia hospital settling False Claims Act allegations, here are the latest healthcare industry lawsuits and settlements making headlines.

1. Sacramento County agrees to pay UC Davis Health $98M to settle reimbursement dispute
Sacramento County agreed to pay Sacramento, Calif.-based UC Davis Health $98 million plus interest over a 15-year period as reimbursement for services the health system provided to jail inmates and indigent residents of the county between July 2008 and December 2015.

2. Sutter Health destroys evidence in antitrust case over inflated prices
Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health destroyed 192 boxes of documents requested by plaintiffs in an antitrust lawsuit, San Francisco County Superior Court Judge Curtis E.A. Karnow stated in a Nov. 13 ruling. 

3. Georgia hospital, affiliates to pay $12.9M to settle billing fraud allegations
Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, Ga., and affiliates agreed to pay $12.9 million to resolve allegations they submitted fraudulent claims to government payers.

4. Stanford School of Medicine administrator arrested for allegedly embezzling $15k
A Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine administrator was arrested Nov. 8 for allegedly embezzling $15,000.

5. Woman accused of attacking nurse at Minnesota hospital
A 36-year-old woman was charged with fourth degree assault after prosecutors say she hit a nurse in the face at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn., in October.

6. EHR vendor eClinicalWorks sued for nearly $1B over allegedly inaccurate medical information
The administrator of the estate of a deceased cancer patient is suing EHR vendor eClinicalWorks for alleged gross negligence and breach of fiduciary duty, according to a Nov. 14 class-action complaint obtained by Becker's Hospital Review

7. Roche sues Pfizer to prevent a biosimilar from entering US market
Roche Holding AG sued Pfizer in a move to prevent a biosimilar version of its breast cancer drug Herceptin from entering the U.S. market.

8. Minnesota counties, cities join national surge of opioid epidemic lawsuits
County board commissioners from at least six Minnesota counties authorized attorneys to enter agreements with private law firms to either file a lawsuit or consider litigation against drugmakers and distributors to recoup expenses related to the public cost of responding to the opioid epidemic.
