1. Physician imposter sentenced to 38 years in prison
A 54-year-old man who posed as a cosmetic surgeon was sentenced Aug. 8 to 38 years and three months in prison.

2. Mother sues Portland hospital after she accidentally smothered her baby
An Oregon woman who says she accidentally suffocated her 4-day-old baby after falling asleep with him in her hospital bed has sued the hospital where she gave birth and a nurse there.

3. Former healthcare CFO sentenced to more than 3 years in prison for fraud
U.S. District Judge Malcolm J. Howard sentenced William Canupp, former CFO of Beulaville, N.C.-based Eastpointe Human Services, to 3 1/2 years in prison for wire fraud, tax fraud and conspiracy to commit federal program fraud.

4. Martin Shkreli guilty on three counts in securities fraud case

New Hampshire filed a lawsuit against Stamford, Conn.-based Purdue Pharma for allegedly misleading marketing campaigns, which state officials believe fueled their current opioid epidemic.
