The following hospital lawsuits were reported in the past month, beginning with the most recent.

1. 4 Houston-area hospitals will pay $8.6M to settle kickback allegations
Four Houston-area hospitals will pay settlements totaling $8.6 million to resolve allegations they received kickbacks from ambulance companies in exchange for Medicare and Medicaid transport referrals.

2. South Carolina health system to pay $7M to settle false billing case
Anderson, S.C.-based AnMed Health agreed to pay more than $7 million to resolve allegations it submitted false claims to Medicare.

3. Wisconsin health system blames Cerner software for $16M in losses
Fond Du Lac, Wis.-based Agnesian Healthcare is suing Cerner, claiming issues with its revenue cycle management software caused the system to lose $16 million.

4. Washington AG sues second hospital over charity care practices
The Washington Attorney General's Office filed a lawsuit against Capital Medical Center in Olympia, Wash., alleging the 110-bed hospital's charity care practices violate state law. 

5. Roofing company sues BJC HealthCare, seeks to halt campus renewal project
A roofing and construction company is suing St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare, alleging the health system denied the company a chance to bid directly on construction work on a new patient tower, which is part of a $1.5 billion campus renewal project.

6. Operator of 2 New York City hospitals pays $4M to settle false claims, Stark Law allegations
MediSys Health Network, which owns and operates two New York City hospitals, agreed to pay $4 million to settle allegations it violated the False Claims Act and Stark Law.

7. Female physicians sue Carolinas HealthCare over discriminatory pay practices
Three female physicians filed a federal lawsuit against Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System, alleging they were paid less than a male counterpart for equal work.
