1. Former hospital exec sues Tenet, claims retaliation for reporting unnecessary surgeries
The former president of DMC Heart Hospital filed a federal lawsuit April 1 against Detroit Medical Center, parent company Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, and three executives.

2. Novartis must face trial over alleged physician kickbacks, judge rules
A federal judge in New York ruled that Novartis must face trial in a case accusing the drugmaker of paying millions of dollars in kickbacks to physicians to boost prescription rates.

3. Northeast urgent care chain to pay $2M to settle whistleblower case
CareWell Urgent Care, a chain of walk-in clinics in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, will pay $2 million to resolve allegations that it submitted false claims to government insurers.

4. Fresenius will pay $231M to settle bribery charges
Fresenius Medical Care agreed to pay more than $231 million to resolve civil and criminal allegations that it paid bribes to public health and government officials in several countries to secure business.

5. Lawsuit alleges San Diego hospital secretly recorded 1,800 patients
A lawsuit filed March 29 alleges Sharp Grossmont Hospital in San Diego used hidden cameras to secretly record appointments with 1,800 patients at a women's health center in El Cajon, Calif.
