Emily Rappleye -

Three physicians and a cardiac center agreed to collectively pay $1.1 million to settle allegations of violating the Anti-Kickback Statute and the False Claims Act in a scheme related to genetic testing, reports KNOE, an ABC News affiliate in Monroe, La.

The physicians named in the settlement are Gregory Sampognaro, MD, a cardiologist practicing in the Monroe area; Warren Strickland, MD, a cardiologist practicing in Huntsville, Ala.; and Isabella Strickland, MD, a family medicine physician in Huntsville. Cardiology P.C. of Birmingham, Ala., is also named, according to KNOE.

The physicians allegedly received kickbacks from Natural Molecular Testing Corp. for ordering its genetic tests, according to the report. NMTC then allegedly billed Medicare for the tests.

Dr. Sampognaro agreed to pay $519,750, and Cardiology P.C. will pay $411,300. Dr. Isabella Strickland agreed to pay $107,900 and Dr. Warren Strickland agreed to pay $95,053, according to the report.
